The Central Nebraska Medical Reserve Corps was granted official designation status as a Medical Reserve Corps on November 30, 2006. We are excited to be involved in a program that will undoubtedly benefit the TRIMRS area!
Central Nebraska Medical Reserve Corps Mission Statement
Our mission is to recruit, organize, train and prepare medical professionals to serve and assist care delivery in urgent and emergent situations. The MRC will support and assist local, regional and national entities in delivering and maintaining vital health care services.
Central Nebraska Medical Reserve Corps Vision Statement
Our vision is to provide expert medical assistance, advice, support and service whenever called upon to do so.
What is a Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)?
MRC units are community-based and utilize volunteers--medical professionals and others--who want to donate their time and expertise to serve their community by promoting healthy living throughout the year and preparing for and responding to emergencies. MRC volunteers supplement existing local emergency and public health resources.
What can MRC volunteers do?
MRC volunteers support local public health, while advancing the priorities of the U.S. Surgeon General including: promoting disease prevention, improving health literacy, eliminating health disparities and enhancing public health preparedness. They assist local hospitals and health departments with surge personnel needs and participate in mass prophylaxis and vaccination exercises. They also participate in community disaster drills and train with local emergency response partners. MRC volunteers are fully credentialed and go through a formal background check with the State Patrol. They can only operate within their scope of practice and will always have the choice to accept or not accept opportunities to serve.
Once they are approved, volunteers will go through a brief orientation process and will receive training and education free of charge, some of which is eligible for CME, CEU and contact hours for medical professionals.
What is the Central Nebraska Medical Reserve Corps doing?
The CNMRC is sponsored by the Tri-Cities Medical Response System and serves a 23 county area in central Nebraska (a list of counties we serve can be found under "Tri-Cities Medical Response"). Hospitals, public health departments and emergency managers throughout the TRIMRS region have been supportive of a regional approach to development of an MRC. This approach will provide us a larger volunteer base to serve a population that has similar needs.
The CNRMC is now accepting applications from individuals interested in becoming CNMRC volunteers so please send in your application today!
